Week 4

The very first assignment was due on Thursday. It's different from the assignment in CSC108 because we are not given what specific methods we needed to write, but we need to write a variety of classes to make a small game.  It feels harder when we weren't given exactly what to write, but it's way more fun and challenging this way. One thing I hope we can change in the future is that talk about the assignment earlier rather than when it's close to due day. I had to fixed my entire choose move class because the prof mentioned that choose move class should work with any generic game. Also, talking about assignment early will discourage procrastination.

Also, we started recursion in class. I feel like recursion is one of the most confusion topic in all my computer science course, because it's hard to understand what it does directly. But tracing recursion definitely helped me to understanding the recursion better.

Week 3 (Why Geeks Should Write)

My definition of geeks are people who are very intelligent but shy, quiet and nerdy, so they don't like to express themselves and communicate  with other people. There are a lot of geeks in the math and computer science area, because math and computer science usually require very little interaction with other people. However, once they need to interact with other people, they need to express themselves well. In my opinion, writing would be the most clear way to express yourself, especially when you have to convince someone. For example, if you have to prove a theory as a mathematician, you would have to use constructive writing (perhaps an essay) to prove it; or if you want someone else to understand your code as a coder, you would have to write comments to clarify what you did. Especially if it's a complex algorithm, then you need clear and concise writing to demonstrate your logic and thinking process to other people.

Also, geeks tend to work with more complicate and deeper materials, which will be more demanding for the average people. In order for them to understand clearly, a good explanation will be needed; this is where writing shines; a clear written explanation will help with a lot of confusions.

I believe that writing is an essential and necessary way to express yourself and communicate with others, especially for geeks since they don't interact with other people often already.
